Remarks & Notes
State Railway of Thailand GE UM12C #4045 leads Train #257 along the River Kwai just outside Kanchanaburi, Thailand. This scheduled tourist train is running on the only remaining active piece of the infamous Death Railway (Thai-Burma Railway). The Thai-Burma Railway was built by the Japanese during World War II using the slave labor of Allied POW's and Asian civilians. Over 60,000 POW's and 100,000 local laborers died under the harsh work conditions and torture. Now this trackage is run by the State Railway of Thailand and is a very popular tourist train ride running from Bangkok to Namtok, the site of a large waterfall and national park.
