Hey, look...a train running in the winter in Alaska under sunny skies! That combination is hard to come by in the winter of 2013/14 thus far as train movements have all but evaporated this season since coal exports on the south end of the line have stopped. The weekly Whittier freight does still run when the barges make it in, but with limited daylight and these movements taking place during the work week, my opportunities have been zilch. But on this day after Christmas, the sun was out, the barge was in, and ARR 3008 was up front on a long freight heading south near Portage as the sun was barely clearing the mountains to the south.
