JS #8358 struggles to move 40 loaded coal cars up the grade out of the Erjing Mine railyard. Fortunately for the former-mainline 2-8-2, the apex of the grad is in a few meters and soon the train will coast down to South Station. This JS 2-8-2 is somewhat unique among the many 2-8-2's of Sandaoling as it still carries a red star, a decoration once common on Chinese steam. Sandaoling is the only place left in the world where 40-car loaded coal trains are still moved by steam in 2014!!
