A lone Clinchfield GE U36C sits in the yard in Spartanburg, SC. In just a year from now, this unit and the 6 others that the Clinchfield took delivery of in 1971 to help ease a power shortage, would be traded to Seaboard Coast Line for a like number of SD45's in an effort to return the railroad to an all EMD roster. 35mm slide from my collection, photo by W.M.
