Remarks & Notes
On a long ferry trip from Knoxville to Greensboro, Southern's leased ex-Texas Pacific Texas-type waits briefly at the train order office at Hot Springs, NC for her engineer and conductor to sign for orders. Ten-coupled power wasn't unusual here. Southern used 5200-series USRA design Santa Fes on this route. In fact, they handled virtually every single freight on this busy line during the '40s.
