Harper's Ferry WV 5/17/2014 - Running at flood stage 15 feet above normal, the swollen Potomac and Shenadoah Rivers thrust 13,500 cubic feet of water per second underneath Amtrak's westbound Capitol Limited as it slows for a station stop in the quaint Civil War town of Harper's Ferry. Viewed from high above on the cliffs of Loudoun Heights, Amtrak's P-029 is on the CSX Cumberland Subdivision enroute from Washington, D.C. to Chicago, IL, crossing the Potomac River on a bridge that looks much shorter than normal. In the foreground, the Shenadoah River flows into the Potomac at the confluence of these two historic waterways. Peaking from between the submerged trees in the foreground, the CSX Shenandoah Subdivision to Winchester rides atop a wooden trestle.
