Remarks & Notes
This is the MHC test train with an MHC I and MHC II to run with a DOT geometry car to dig into the rather interesting results of the NTSB report from the 1994 Lake Shore Limited derailment involving an MHC I. There was nothing out of spec with the car, however the MHCs were restricted by the freight railroads to slower speeds than the normal 79mph max Amtrak trains traveled; making them useless on a passenger train outside of the NEC. Ironically, this test train ended up derailing near Lyons, NY. I never heard what the official cause was. MHC care are now retired and being scrapped. A few have been set aside for MOW and work train duty, but their days of hauling US Mail have been long over.

Once home to Delaware & Hudson's corporate headquarters, today Albany is home to Amtrak's Maple Leaf, Adirondack and NY Regional Trains. This album is a behind the scenes tour of the complex. Thanks to all photographers who contributed to this album.
