As part of its investigation of high power diesels, SNCF ordered 4 prototypes that were delivered in 1964-1966. Two of them were diesel-hydraulic (4-axle BB 69001 and 69002) and two were diesel-electrics (6-axle CC 70001 and 70002). The picture shows the last train of the last prototype remaining in service, the BB 69001, on a Saint-Dizier to Langres manifest, on a snowy day, running along the Champagne-Bourgogne Canal (Champagne and Burgundy, two famous French wines!). Note the interesting rotating bridge in the foreground. It serves the spur of a nearby factory.
