An Amtrak ACS-64 sprints eastbound over the Hutchinson River and across the Pelham Bay Bridge in the Bronx. Stamford, CT is the train's next stop, along with points further north.
This ailing bridge was built in 1907 for the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad. In 2009, Amtrak spent $10 million rehabilitating the bridge, though at well over a 100 years old, the long term desire is to ultimately replace the bridge with a $500 high level fixed span bridge.
The Northeast Corridor cuts through four New York counties on its brief stretch to the Connecticut Line east of Port Chester. There are several photo opportunities along the route.
