Starting in the mid-1960s one might encounter power from almost any railroad on Union Pacific’s Wyoming mainline. Still it was a bit unusual to find a single Burlington leading on all-UP consist, much less a U25B heading up a set of EMDs, as the 101 is here, westbound out of Laramie. On July 7, 1966, motive power freight pools were the still a novelty, and during the course of a single day one might photograph Frisco, N&W, Western Pacific, Southern Pacific, and even Southern and Rock Island power mingling with Armour yellow along the transcon. It was a great time to be a railfan.
