Remarks & Notes
On the rear of the Denver-based wreck train at Rocky, Colorado, on March 5, 2000, is a former Rio Grande heavyweight passenger car, and just ahead of it is a former troop sleeper. Both are support cars for the No. 030 50-ton derrick, a rebuilt former Rock Island machine, seen a few more cars forward. As the westbound train climbs into the Front Range of the Rockies, threatening storm clouds move in—most apropos for the occasion.
