Looking up from the middle of Canal Road on the Maryland side at the steel support structure and deck plate girder spans of Norfolk and Western Bridge No. 699 which in all spans 1,324 feet across and 112 feet above the Potomac River and C&O Canal at Shepherdstown, WV.
