It's always a sight to see one of the fifteen overhauled 1993 GE P40DC Genesis locomotives. Funded by President Bush, the American Investment and Recovery Act and TIGER Stimulus grants were able to allocate funding to Amtrak and other infrastructure improvements. Amtrak used the grants to overhaul stations, such as the Greensburg station just east of where this photo was taken, passenger cars, such as the cafe car on this train, and the P40DC class locomotive.
P40DC locomotives are now cosmetically identical to their P42DC cousins. However, this was not the case when GE delivered the Genesis to Amtrak. The P40DC featured strobe lighting above the locomotive cab and a window at the rear of the locomotive. Amtrak removed both of these distinguishing feature in order to homogenize the fleet.
There is, however, one noticeable difference -the border around the cab window. Notice that on the P40DC, the black window frame is nearly twice as thick.
