A pair of dirty R.I. U33B's, led by 7-year old #291, pull a Council Bluffs bound freight across 63rd street in West Des Moines at a slow 10-20 mph as they smoke up the sky. The train is nearing the end of double track that stretched through Des Moines, to enter single main for the balance of the trip. Its a partly cloudy day and I can barely make out the red-green-red diverging signal from this angle. This area is known as Valley Jct. To the left, SW900 #906 idles across from the depot. All aspects of this photo show poor maintenance at this point in the Rock's history. Taken on Kodachrome 25 with 55mm Minolta lens.
