Union Pacific’s LJP45 local crew switches the yard at Helper, Utah, on a crisp February 8, 2005. Normally, this local hauled contaminated dirt and municipal trash (and other waste) to a landfill at East Carbon from its home terminal of Helper, and was the last stompin’ grounds for Rio Grande’s EMD SD40T-2 fleet as they dwindled on UP’s roster in the early 2000’s. By July 2005, these two Tunnel Motors (5390 and 5371) would be the last SD40T-2s in full Rio Grande dress.
