The Southern/NS steam program ran trips from Alexandria, Virginia to Charlottesville every year. The southbound route offered a lot of well-lit locations, but the return trip, with its mid afternoon departure and southwest - northeast orientation presented challenges. This properly-lit location just outside of Charlottesville became one of my "go-to" spots. Here N&W 611 treads across the Rivanna River.
