A Mountain and a Locomotive!
Two icons of Northern California mingle for one of the last times as McCloud River Railroad #25 steams in the shadow of Mt. Shasta. By the time this photograph was taken in 2008, the McCloud Railway east of McCloud had already been abandoned and was in the process of being scrapped. Soon the #25 would move on to a brighter future hauling tourists on the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad in Garibaldi, OR, where it works to this day. Meanwhile, the McCloud Railway lies dormant waiting for a new owner to revitalize the line or the cutting torch of the scrapper to rip out the last of the tracks. And Mt. Shasta still remains casting a shadow over the pine forests of McCloud.
