| Last of a Dying Breed- Power for tomorrow's P23 has just been set off by local P61 at Barber Junction on the north end of the small trestle over "Old 70". Power for the train is one of only three former SOUTHERN GP50's left on the roster at the time of the photo. What once was a locomotive used on the Southern's hottest trains is now relegated to local switching duties, and is living on borrowed time, likely to be ripped apart and rebuilt into a GP33ECO in the coming months. Finding this engine sitting idle really made my day. |
