| In most cases a barge docking in Whittier will generate two trains in each direction. The first train south from Anchorage will be powered by Geeps. Upon arrival in Whittier the crew will tie their train down and use the Geeps, along with a handle, to start the unloading process. The second train south from Anchorage will use MACs and will be a turn. They will drop their train and pick up a train and head north to Anchorage. The Geeps will then load the barge and bring the remaining tonnage to town. As this train is powered by MACs it is the turn and it's the lengthier of the two. Seen here with about 7800 feet of train stretched out along the shores of Turnagain Arm just south of Beluga Point. |
