The much-talked-about firebox of 2716 was the major focus of the initial inspection. In this shot, Jason Sobczynski, founding member of KSHCO and owner of Next Generation Rail Services, prepares to take ultrasonic readings of the interior. Jeff Lisowski, also of KSHCO, peers through the firebox doors from the cab. While there were some thin spots found, the majority of the firebox readings indicated that it would provide a good base for repair rather than replacing. A full ultrasound will be done this spring.
