Remarks & Notes
Sitting in Chrome Crankshaft's facility in Alhambra, California, on May 12th, 1982, is RS-32 4005. (These are also known as DL-721s by builder Alco.) Placed in service by SP in April 1962 as Southern Pacific 7309, it would later be renumbered SP 4009 in the massive 1965 renumbering program. CC acquired this engine upon retirement from the SP on November 22nd, 1978, and numbered is 4005. It was leased to the San Diego & Arizona Eastern in 1979, and was returned to Chrome Crankshaft by April 9th, 1980. In June 1987 it was leased to Amax Magnesium in Rowley, UT, who returned it in October 1988. In March of 1989, it was sold to Short Line Enterprises of Valencia, CA, and today it serves tourist railroad Fillmore & Western as their number 4009.
