Hometown Trestle - MM 107.5. With a few flakes in the air from an impending snowstorm, the Reading & Northern's Locomotive 425 stretches her legs on the massive steel trestle just west of the aptly-named Hometown, PA.

The nearly 1000 ft. long structure you see here spans the Little Schuylkill River at a height of 157 ft. It was constructed in 1931 and replaced a very impressive wooden bridge that had stood at this location since the 1880s. Riding the express train pictured above will definitely send chills down the spines of those with a fear of heights. Fortunately, for much of the span, there is a thick stand of trees below, so the drop doesn't "look" as precipitous as it really is....LOL!
