Remarks & Notes
The date says Conrail, but the scene is pure Reading. On the third weekend of Conrail’s existence, a lot of motive power has been shuffled, but the train patterns are still intact. Here a coal train destined for Bethlehem Steel’s coke works near Hellertown, Pennsylvania, approaches JU interlocking on the former CNJ in Bethlehem. The Reading had trackage rights on the Jersey Central from the East Penn branch al East Penn Junction to JU, where the CNJ connected with the Reading’s North Penn line.
