Missouri Pacific owned over 300 SD40-2s, but the locomotive that really defined the MP in the 1970s and beyond was the EMD GP38-2 - The MoPac owned 264 GP38-2s (along with 6 GP38s). Built in August 1976, MP 2134 is from the railroad's smallest order for these engines - Order 766004 was for just five engines, MP 2133-2137. While pretty basic, these units did come equipped with a snowplow and a four-stack exhaust.
