Remarks & Notes
The morning of May 29, 2015 found virtually no one around at Spencer with the exception of the steam crew preparing 611 for the next day's triumphant journey to her birthplace of Roanoke, Virginia. Zac McGinnis gets 611 ready while photographer Chris Campbell gets a unique perspective. "Hours were spent with that engine, trying to assimilate its every detail. I was lost in fascination- overwhelmed and amazed...absorbing the sounds of the building fire, the hiss of escaping steam, the whine of the turbogenerator. There were the good smells of hot oil and coal smoke. A few men were going through the ritual of preparing a steam engine for yet another trip. And I was trying to understand in that short period of time all that I had missed, and might never know again." - W.J. Walker
