Remarks & Notes

A little past noon on March 6, 1966, Rio Grande’s Train 10, the Yampa Valley, has been waiting only a few minutes at Azure siding near the entrance to Little Gore Canyon when Train 17, the California Zephyr, pops into view on its westward trek to Oakland. As usual one of the Grande's four Alco Pa’s and an F7B lead a baggage car, a pair of dome-coaches, and, today only, a private car belonging to a Denver railfan group. Heading the CZ is F7A 5761 and a set of F7s spliced by steam generator car 253, rebuilt a year ago from one of the Grande’s two Alco PB’s and used during the winter months.
