Remarks & Notes |
Due to the drastic reduction in the number of coal trains in the Helper, Utah area the Utah Ry. has changed its motive power policy. From now on all Utah Ry. coal trains will use Union Pacific head end and DPU power. Utah Ry. power will be used only for the 5 or 6 unit manned mid train helpers and the short, weekly acid trains. This shot shows a Utah Ry. helper set at Utah Ry. Junction at the eastern end of Price River Canyon. The track to the left leads to Utah Ry’s Martin yard. The helper set has just come down this track, entered Union Pacific’s Provo sub and reversed direction. It now has the signal for its eastward run through the UP Helper Yard to the Castle Valley spur between Price and Wellington. At the Castle Valley wye it will be cut into the loaded coal train waiting there and the whole outfit will head west through Helper yard and right by Utah Ry. Junction once again for the trip up the 2.4% grades to Soldier Summit. |
