Remarks & Notes
Up, up and away! For the first time in many years, Genesee & Wyoming #20 is lifted free of its rails, in preparation for loading onto a flat car. The 1944 General Electric product was donated to the Lake Shore Railway Museum by the Youngstown Steel Heritage Foundation. The locomotive was surplus to the YSHF collection, and given its historical significance the decision was made to donate the first diesel-electric locomotive owned by Genesee & Wyoming to Lake Shore. Once on the property, #20 will become the seventh Erie-built GE locomotive in the collection. Crews from Diamond Steel Construction, Youngstown Steel Heritage, and Lake Shore Railway Museum oversaw the loading of the locomotive onto the 60' QTTX flat car, and will be securing the locomotive to the car within the next few days.
