Milwaukee Road 261 leads Amtrak Train #992, a Friends of the 261 Excursion returning from the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth, MN to Minneapolis. Here the special is traversing the BNSF Hinckley Sub. over the Kettle River as seen from the Quarry Rapids at Robinson Park.
This was the first time the engine had ran without a diesel locomotive in the consist for several years, and the July 1944 ALCO 4-8-4 handled the nearly matching 11 car consist flawlessly. It's also not much of a stretch to see MILW equipment here, for the railroad had trackage rights over this former GN line.
Also of interest for a steam fan, is the second passenger car in the consist, NSRX 800608, the "Golden Valley", a former NP Baggage Car that was used by the SLSTA behind Frisco 1522 for a good portion of its excursion career as the "Black Gold".
