400 meters in front of the train is the spot where a young news reporter, Winston Churchill, was captured during the Anglo Boer War (1899 - 1902), when the train he was travelling on was seized by the boers. Late on a beautiful autumn afternoon and Class 18E locomotives, 18-780 / 18-524 / 18-220, are passing through the remains of the once beautiful Frere Station with a loaded grain train. The train is running contra flow and is about to start the climb up towards Chieveley.
