"Siemens Charger at New York Penn" Illinois DOT's brand new Siemens SC-44 "Charger" locomotives takes a rest at New York Penn Station during the height of the rush hour awaiting a new train crew and a restock of snacks and drinks for the rest of the test crew. Over the past couple of weeks, Amtrak (the operator of the engines) has been testing the unit all over the Northeast Corridor to check stability, acceleration and many other factors. These unit are being purchased by state (not be Amtrak themselves) and will eventually replace the Genesis units. Plans are in place for a dual mode version to be purchased by the state of New York. This isn't for about 4 years so New York Penn won't see this engine class again, until then most likely.
