Remarks & Notes

A pair of Geese fly over Cascade Creek. Running together in open country for the first time in decades, RGS Motors #5 and 7 tip-toe across the 408 ft. long deck-plate girder bridge, that towers 137 ft. over Cascade Creek. Leading the formation today is RGS #5, which is owned by the City of Dolores, Colorado and operated by the Galloping Goose Historical Society of Dolores. Goose #5 is one of three "Geese" which was modified in 1945 with newer Wayne Bus bodies, which provided more room for passengers than the original Pierce-Arrow design. Bringing up the rear in today's "formation" is RGS #7, which is owned and operated by the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden, Colorado. This unit sports the original Pierce-Arrow Bus body and has perhaps just a bit more "character" than #5. In their later years of operation, both of these machines had their freight boxes modified to carry passengers. This included large sight-seeing windows that are removable for hot weather running. Both machines are delightful to ride in and make a very distinctive set of sounds as they climb and descend the grades on this beautiful mountain railroad.
