Remarks & Notes
Mount Washington Cog Railway is one of the most unique railroads in the world. The 3 mile stretch of track to the Summit of the 6288' Mount Washington is the second steepest railroad in the world with grades from 25 to 37 percent. The railroad was once all steam however due to operational cost and environmental reasons there are only two working steam locomotives left in the fleet. The Cog now uses a fleet of six modern bio diesels powered by John Deere motors. In this photo both sections of the 1:30 trip can be seen ascending the grade together as the 12:30 trip descends in the upper right hand corner of the photo. The trains will pass at Waumbeck Siding.
