For many decades the Opelika depot - which sat hard against the crossing of the Western Railway of Alabama and the Central of Georgia - had long umbrella sheds that ran adjacent to both mains. The CofG main ran adjacent to the depot, but the WofA main was separated from the depot by a passing track, necessitating a taller, connecting shed to connect the two lower sheds. The umbrella sheds and passing track were removed in the 1970s, leaving just the taller 'connector' in place - shown here framing the lead unit of a trio of SD40-2s - for the following few years. Alas, the march of progress led to the demolition of the tall shed in the late '80s/early '90s.
