Remarks & Notes
A colorful combination of CNW SD40s are parked at the sand tower near the Altoona, WI roundhouse for servicing between assignments. SD40 891 is in its as delivered scheme, part of the first order of units to feature CNW's signature gong bell on the nose. Unit 923 is a former Chicago Great Western unit featuring a variation of yellow/green that came about after the 1968 merger and lasted until the delivery of the first SD40-2s in 1973. Note it's Mars light still intact. The third unit is another x-CGW unit still wearing its as delivered red/black scheme.
