Screaming through my alma mater town of Drexel is KCS Train XW-KCPB-16 hugging the Kansas State Line through town on the KCS Pittsburg Sub. past the elevator. From here the train will proceed south to a track project which will utilize the MOW machines on the flats entrained.
For you roster guys the leader was once a Conrail unit, built as CR 6828 in 2-1986 builder and frame number 857080-24. To NS 5472 in 1999 after the split, and NREX 5472 before coming to the KCS.
The trailing unit, KCS 3165 is a KCS original, built as KCS 631 in March 1971, builder number 35843, frame number 7222-4. Still in white paint, it was renumbered to KCS 4631 in 1994 to make room for SD40-3 rebuilds coming from VMV. Then this unit itself was lucky enough to go through the same program, emerging as KCS 676 in the late 90's.
Wrecked in 2003, it was rebuilt and returned to service by 2004 at Mid-America Car in KC. By 2005 it had been assigned KCS 3165, and has remained on the roster much longer than most of its brethren, several of which have been gone for as long as 8 years.
