Remarks & Notes

For alittle while in early 2000's the UP was using alot of small 4 axle units on the branchlines in Iowa. Eagle Grove was the hideout for UP B23-7's, SP B23-7's, and CNW GP38's. Was a cool variety away from the mainline. In March 2001 railroads were digging out from pretty decent snow storm that had pasted thru. I was up in the Mason City area and heard a plow guy on the radio. It took forever to figure out these guys were on the ex-CGW towards Thornton, a line that seen hardly any traffic. The coop had a couple cars coming and the UP plow the line out with 3 UP B23's. Too bad we didn't get any plowing action, but did get a couple sunset shots as they head back to Mason City. This line is completely gone now. Was once Chicago Great Western Trackage from Mason City to Eagle Grove via Belmont.
