In a stroke of luck, the sun has broken through the dense overcast that is famous in the Bay Area and found its way not only onto the original Southern Pacific Bayshore roundhouse that still stands today, but also CalTrain No. 380 and its colorful consist as it heads south for its final destination of San Jose. Continuing to stand the test of time, the 107-year-old roundhouse, currently the last standing brick roundhouse in the state of California, has survived not just the changing of the guard from steam to diesel but also a massive fire that ripped through half of its 17 stalls in 2001. Despite being designed as a 40-stall roundhouse, only 17 would actually be covered and become a part of the official roundhouse when built while the other 23 tracks surrounding the turntable became known as "whisker" tracks.
