| When I became a locomotive engineer in 2002, the last test was a check ride aboard Soo 6063, CP's SD60 simulator. It was nerve-racking; you had to set and release the air multiple times in order to bring the "train" safely down the steep hill into St. Paul. Today, the shell of the sim (its innards were removed before it was donated) is located at the Jackson Street Roundhouse. Volunteers have replaced the control stand and added a computer program that gives you the feeling of what it's like to run a train. The kids that play inside it will never know how many grown men sweated it out inside that thing in order to keep their jobs...
