Remarks & Notes

The race is on! As the afternoon "Pocahontas" excursion departed Roanoke, so did NS intermodal train 29G. The two trains raced each other, side by side, from West Roanoke all the way up the mountain towards Walton. To the delight of railfans situated along the popular fence line at Shawsville, the J finally overtook the two GE's just beyond the famous photo location.
