Against the industrial backdrop typical of the Naugatuck Valley at the time, a Connecticut DOT Budd SPV-2000 working for Metro North approaches the station at Ansonia, CT, on a Waterbury-Bridgeport run. These cars were intended for Amtrak service on the New Haven-Springfield line but chronic mechanical troubles led them to be reassigned to Metro North and then depowered and used on Shore Line East trains. The massive Farrel plant in the background, which dated to the 19th century, was once a major shipper of heavy machinery via the New Haven RR.
