Rounding the curve along San Pablo Bay in Hercules, CA, is Amtrak train 743, a Capitol Corridor train heading from Sacramento to San Jose. This train, photographed on June 17, 2017, has interesting power: The usual Amtrak California EMD F59PHI is up front (in this case, CDTX 2010), followed by a new Siemens SC-44 “Charger” (CDTX 2104) that is being broken in. It won’t be long before the SC-44s are turned loose to run free on both the Capitol Corridors and San Joaquins.
