Remarks & Notes
There are still some few freights over the Gotthard mountain line. Since june 9th, 2017, all freights transporting sand are banned from going through the Gotthard Base Tunnel (GBT), which concerns mainly the gravel trains from Hüntwangen-Wil to the Ticino. All this trains have a mixed load of gravel and sand for concrete production. The problem is, that the air twirl in the base tunnel causes loss of some sand, which remains in the 57 kilometer long tunnel. Following passenger trains, running with 200 km/h through the single bore, are "sandblasted" and risk damages of the coating and windows. Above Wassen, gravel train 69767 from Hüntwangen-Wil to Lugano Vedeggio is tackling the Gotthard mountain north ramp with locomotives Re 420 # 320 and Re 620 # 087 in multiple. The unique Re 420 # 320 got a orange "InterregioCargo" paint scheme in june 2009 and was rented to the "Rail Traction Services" company. After the quickly bankruptcy of this railway in august 2009, the locomotive came back to SBB Cargo and is still running in this paint scheme.
