Remarks & Notes
This 60-3 class Shay has had an interesting history. It was built in 1916 for the famed West Side Lumber Co, and is one of many surviving Shays from this line. It came to CO in the 1970s and spent decades hauling tourists on the Georgetown Loop from Georgetown to Silver Plume. In 2003 the operator of the GL was not able to reach an agreement with the Colorado Historical Society who owns the line and much of the equipment was moved up to the CO RR Museum where 14 has sat dormant since that time. Interestingly she is now lettered for the Argentine Central RR which operated a few miles west from Silver Plume to Mount McClellan from 1905-1918. This narrow gauge line did employ several Shays (though 2 truck units) and was the highest conventional adhesion railway in the world.
