Remarks & Notes |
An interesting collection sits around the Durango turntable including this long out of service K-37 #493 which was retired by the Rio Grande in 1970. It is one of several out of service K-37s throughout the state. #491 at the Colorado RR Museum in Golden is the only currently operational member of this class, though 8 of the original 10 K-37s survive. They were all built
in the D&RGW's Denver shops in 1928-1930 from the boilers of 1902 vintage standard gauge C-41 class 2-8-0s. #497 at the Cumbres & Toltec was operational throughout the 1990s. The diesel is a former US Gypsum unit which in recent years has operated at the Georgetown Loop, but I'm not sure what it is doing at Durango. |
