Remarks & Notes
The Broadway Limited is racing west under the old Marietta Pike bridge, passing the crumbling station platforms at Mount Joy. The bridge has since been replaced, and Amtrak and the Commonwealth of PA are currently in the process of erecting a new $25 million station on this site, complete with high-level platforms. Locomotive 917 still survives; it was built by Altoona/Westinghouse in July 1942 as the PRR 4919, retired by Amtrak after 5.5 million miles, and is today preserved at the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke.
