Remarks & Notes
Easing around a sharp bend, VCRR 1704 leads a hefty string of auto racks off the interchange tracks and onto home rails as it heads for the Naval Base Ventura County. Built in 1952 for the Santa Fe Railway, the 65-year-old locomotive started life as the ATSF 2196. The locomotive would go onto land in the hands of Rail America where it was placed in Ventura in the early 2000's that it continues to perform today. In 2014 the locomotive was painted into the Genesee & Wyoming Inc. paint scheme that, in my opinion, better represents the VCRR than its previous Rail America paint job accomplished.

The EMD GP (General Purpose)series are a strong force of road switchers, with thousands produced over several decades.
