No, this isn't a cartoon. As Cartoon Network's skyscraper looms in the background, a cartoon-like consist rests in the coast siding just north of Burbank Junction on a cool evening. Made up of SCAX 853, a bombardier coach, SCAX 800 and more than 20 loaded, welded rail cars - this year's edition of the Metrolink rail train still draws some attention with passenger locomotives placed on a freight train. While not having power nearly as exciting as the 2015 edition of the rail train, which sported a leased GP9, SW10 and F59PH, this year's edition will likely draw its fair share of attention from the local railfan community as it drops rail throughout the Metrolink system. Just as in danger of being replaced soon as SCAX 853, sister F59PH SCAX 856 is seen in the background racing Metrolink 155 toward its next station stop at the Burbank-Bob Hope Airport.
Some of the best passenger locomotives that EMD ever made (aside from the F40PH). With all Amtrak F59s gone from the Surfline, the only place that they can be seen is with Caltrans (Amtrak California).
