My great uncle, Robert F. McKee, Sr., was a design engineer at the Baldwin Locomotive Works, and he collected many of the Baldwin Locomotive specification cards. In 1985, his son-in-law (my uncle Wayne) sent me this card to add to my collection. My great Uncle Rob got a letter with this card in it from a friend Fred Westing in October 1968. Here is what it said. "Dear Bob, On the occasion of our last trip to the New Jersey Live Steamers, I believe you said that you did not have any pictures of the big Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range engine in your possession. I located a Baldwin specification card picture of this big engine at home and am enclosing it herewith for you to keep. This was the locomotive you turned out and was a fine job. In several respects it exceeded Alco's highly publicized 'Big Boy' over which such a fuss was made. It was nice seeing you again, it is too bad that we Baldwin men can't get together more often to talk about the days when steam ruled the rails - and well they did it too! Kind regards, sincerely Fred Westing." Glad to now have this card as part of my collection. This BLW builders photo card is from the J. R. Doughty collection.
