Rare mileage Zephyr... Amtrak's eastbound California Zephyr train No. 6 rolls east near Rock River at track speed on UP's Laramie Subdivision in Wyoming. Typically, the Zephyrs would operate between Salt Lake City and Denver via UP's ex-Rio Grande main, but in late September and again briefly in early October, both trains Nos. 5 and 6 were detoured across UP's Overland Route due to maintenance-of-way and tunnel curfews. On this day, we were fortunate enough to catch Phase III heritage P40DC No. 822 on the head end.
